On May 31, the 2nd International Medical Сannabis Conference (IMCC-2019) took place in Kyiv. The main aspect of this year's forum was the introduction of new trends in international experience in the production of medicines based on cannabis and their use in the treatment of many serious diseases:
  • treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder;
  • treatment of epilepsy;
  • the use of cannabis in the treatment of cancer;
  • cannabis in the treatment of AIDS patients;
  • as well as other problems related to the medical use of cannabis.

The conference took place at the premises of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine. The organizers were the NGO “Ukrainian Association of Medical Cannabis” in partnership with the All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH “100% Life” with the support of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Participants and speakers of the 2nd International Medical Cannabis Conference were:
  • Michael Kravitz, Executive Director at Veterans For Medical Cannabis Access, Head of the Working Group on the Preparation of the WHO report, USA;
  • Yanina Sokolova, Ukrainian TV presenter, actress, journalist; The person who overcame cancer through medical cannabis, Ukraine.;
  • Kenzi Riboulet Zemouli, Head of Research at, (For Alternative Approaches to Addiction, Think & do tank), France.;
  • Simon Anderfuhren-Biget, Doctor in political science, an independent researcher associated to the department of sociology Geneva University. From 2014, he focused on cannabis policy reforms, research and analysis of cannabis policies, regulatory practices, discourse on reforms and networks of stakeholders in Switzerland and world practice. Collaborates with the Federal Commission for Addiction Issues (EKSF), the Groupement Romand d’Etudes des Addictions (GREA), with organized Swiss cannabis activists as well as with the international NGO FAAAT, Switzerland;
  • Jindřich Vobořil, former Head of the Czech Government Council For Drug Policy Coordination, the author of the Czech law on medical cannabis, currently running for the European Parliament. Former Deputy Director of the INCB (International Narcotics Control Board), Czech Republic.;
  • Ilya Reznik, Doctor, specialist in general and forensic psychiatry, psychopharmacology and neuropsychiatry. Coordinator of the Israeli National Forum / Medical Cannabis Research Association. Member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Cannabinoid Medicine (IACM), Israel;
  • Lumír Ondřej Hanuš, Czech analytical chemist and a heavyweight in cannabis research. In 1992, along with William Anthony Devane he identified and first described the structure of anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid neurotransmitter, Israel;
  • Günter Weiglein, German activist, a member of the movement for the access of medical patients to the treatment of medical cannabis. One of the first patients in Germany who achieved the right to use medical cannabis as an anesthetic under the supervision of his doctor Rainer Pliess, Germany
  • Mykola Perch, Ph.D., USA. At the invitation of the United States Navy and the University of Washington (WSU), he participated in practical scientific work on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at the ROLE 3 NATO Forces, Kandahar, Afghanistan. For two years in Afghanistan, he assisted in the treatment of more than 1,700 traumatic injuries of varying severity, and co-authored the research on the impact of medical cannabis on emotional disorders, including PTSD, USA.
The conference was attended by more than 570 participants, including 450 doctors and scientists, as well as 25 leading media. The conference has become a new impetus for the access of patients to cannabis for medical purposes.
